Are We Strangers?

We work in the same office. We arrive at almost the same time. He leaves much after I do. Have I ever told him that I miss him on the days he doesn’t come? No! I am neither shy nor do I feel awkward. Just that, the thought never crossed my mind.

strangers

He cleans the floors and dusts the tables. He goes about his work as if the place belongs to him. Have I ever told him that I really like that quality about him? No! I am neither shy nor do I feel awkward. Just that, we tend to get caught up in more unimportant things.

I see him walk in every morning. He waves from one corner of the office and I wake back. He smiles. Have I ever told him that his smile adds many rays of sunshine into my life? No! I am neither shy nor do I feel awkward. Just that, one does not always need to put everything in words.

Bond With Strangers

We have been taught since childhood to not “talk to strangers.” Who is a stranger anyway? It makes me think of the bond that we share with the universe. Sure we love our family and friends. But what about those bonds that cannot be explained by relationships or logic? What about the 2-year-old boy who shows so much excitement when I enter the elevator that his mother is surprised? What about the dog that runs up to me wagging its tail so vigorously that people think that I know the dog. There are obviously some bonds that have no history or rationale. And yet, they are such a meaningful part of our lives.

Should I tell him all this? No. I am neither shy nor do I feel awkward. Just that, I think he already knows…

There are very few people in this world who can actual recognize this : ‘his smile adds many rays of sunshine into my life’! :D

    • Priya Nigam says

I think we all recognize it… just that sometimes we don’t have the time to stop and notice.

How true! We go with life and never really think much about the small things that make a huge difference in our lives. Very well written!

    Mam,
Was it For the Piyush Sir? Since that is exactly how I saw the things at Veda when I worked there. I feel so moved reading your posts, everytime. You are the greatest story-teller.
I have been a silent admirer all through. I still feel Veda Is The Best Place I Have Ever Worked For.

    Tejeshwar
Maybe, you dont remember me. Worked for only 2 months for Veda in 2008.

    • Priya Nigam says

No, Tejeshwar. If it was about Piyush, I would not have called it “Are We Strangers”!

Thank you so much for reading my posts. And I am very very flattered with your words… dont know what to say.

Of course I remember you! I still talk about the forex ebook you had worked on (remember?). It’s really nice of you to get in touch. You can join Veda on FB and there is constant excitement there! (http://www.facebook.com/#!/VedaSpeaks)
