A thinker who challenged the logic of evolution, Charles Darwin propounded the theory of evolution. He is recognized as one of the greatest scientists the world has seen. Darwin went against creationism to question the role of God in the origin of life.
Darwin vs Society
Darwin was ahead of his times, defying tested conventions the society then harped upon. The modern biology stands on Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection. He proved that various species evolved through common ancestors and had lots of variations, some of which could be inherited. Darwin, rebelling against the education he was forced to pursue, believed in what he did. He was fond of animals and chased, rats, dogs and butterflies.
Darwin vs Religion
During his time, people believed in the theory of the Old Testament (the Hebrew Bible), that world was created by God in seven days. It was Darwin who announced to the world that life on earth was evolved through a natural selection, where plants as well as animals, adapted themselves to their immediate environment.

In 1859, Darwin published his book ‘On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection’. A hugely controversial book, it explained that variations in environment and climate actually prepared individuals adapt better and that humans were merely an extension of animals.
In 1882, Darwin died and was buried in Westminster Abbey. He lives ever after.
