Happy Birthday, Magic Man.

It’s your birthday, Magic Man and I ‘ve got so much to share about you and trust me, it’s not even meant to flatter you:)

I’ve heard such crap about you, like you eat kids for breakfast and there are snakes hiding in your hair! Well, you know what I think? I think the world has a serious problem with those who have curly hair. Look at the way they treat people with the curls! Nelson Mandela had to pay such a heavy price for it, so did Oprah! Okies, I hope you got my point:)

Anyway, it’s true you do Magic.

I’m not talking about the rings, the ashes or the little tokens you make. As a kid, you would pluck out mangoes, oranges, and other different fruits from the same tree for your little friends to eat. When asked why, you said that you wanted to give them everything, exhaust their desires and prepare them to ask for what you had actually come to bring into their consciousness – God. If that isn’t magic, what is?

Remember, my mother vowed she would never eat non-vegetarian food after she heard that as a child, you used to cry when any animal was beaten or killed because you felt like you were being beaten or strangled, that you used to choke and feel very ill when anyone did that to any animal.

When an Englishman killed a tiger, you made his Jeep get stuck in the middle of the forest and he was stranded forever till some one brought him to you. You freaked him out by telling him every thing he had done in life and you made him promise never to hurt or kill any animal again. These stories freaked me out coz Mom stopped cooking all those delicious chicken curries cooked in coconut milk and fish fry steamed in banana leaves.

You touched my dad’s hands and blessed it and told him to serve people who really need to be healed and helped. My dad is doing what you are doing at a micro level – transforming, healing, serving and helping others. Doing this, my dad has gained more than anyone else because he learned that there is nothing more powerful than being able to share love across the boundaries that man has created – caste, religion, nationality, etc.

My totally super cool, crazy friend, Lucky as we called her, was so moved to tears the first time she saw you. She said that you are Christ and Krishna rolled into one super being. She started doing free medical aid, door-to-door delivery by visiting the homes of poor people. I definitely know your magic had something to bring about this change!

Look for God, not faults or flaws, in Your Self

You told me to stop looking for God in temples and churches. You told me that I am God but I am not aware of it. You said a musk deer thinks its fragrance comes from somewhere else so it goes in pursuit of the fragrance without realizing it all begins with one self. You said that if I cannot feel with my heart and soul for people, their worries and tears, the way God does, I can never become the real Self – Me. You said the ocean is supreme but the wave does not have a separate existence from it.

You said that God becomes supreme when I travel beyond the realm of my self centered life and learn to spread joy, light and happiness, not through mantras or prayers, but by practicing love and honesty just like you do. A kind word, a loving glance and a heart full of compassion, is that so hard to practice?

Talk to the Sun, Stars and Flowers, Just Look to God in People

You told me to listen to God’s voice and then, I could talk to the sun, the moon, the stars, the stones, the waves, the leaves, and nearly everything in this world became within my reach. The toughest thing is to talk to people because unlike flowers and stars, they don’t share openly what’s in their minds. They pretend, they fake their own emotions and they suffer for it and with them, I too, because I know they can do so much more if they opened their hearts and selves to God.

They say Christ and Krishna did bizarre things too. I don’t know whether they did but I never met them or had them in my life the way I have you. Like the transformation of hearts you brought into millions of people, wave after wave, I am ready to believe in your magic.

For all the love that you brought into my life, for all the wrongs that you made right, for all the peace I have found in you, I want to say, “Magic Man, I am so glad I found you and that I love you and I wish you a very, very Happy Birthday.”

what a lovely and lively post! It is so simply written and yet it has so much substance to it.

“A kind word, a loving glance and a heart full of compassion, is that so hard to practice?” – Apparently, that is the most difficult thing to practice… maybe because it needs one to be simple and we are so busy making our lives more complex.

I loved the part about “practicing love” – I hadn’t thought about it that way… Added a new dimension to my thoughts… maybe that’s the answer I had been looking for to become a more sensitive person (remember my feedback session?).

    @Palash: Thanks so much, Palash.

@Ankit: Hey, Ankit, I had forgotten about that post and felt really happy reading it again. It’s made my day a lot brighter. So, a big cheers and thank you!

@Lila: Thanks, I am overwhelmed by your feedback. Hats off to you because I feel you have thought so deeply about it. You are right – a kind word, a loving glance and a heart full of compassion – is the most difficult thing to practice. I know you are practicing it at different levels and doing so much more to grow every one around you, so don’t even worry about it. You are there, and that’s what counts for us.
