Saluting Dads on Father’s Day

when-is-the-fathers-day-sayingsCelebrated on the third Sunday of June, Father’s Day honors fathers and celebrates fatherhood. Although mothers play an important role in the upbringing of a child, the role of a father cannot be ignored. Dad is someone special who teaches his children a lot of things through his behavior.

Happy Father’s Day: Honouring Dads

It was my father who advised on what subjects to choose, what activities to go for and how to deal with the toughest of problems. He was the one who taught me to smile even in our bad times. Although I used to fear him when it came to studies or other matters, I knew I could always discuss any problem I faced in school, college or at work. His tendency to enjoy life, have fun and tell jokes is what I miss the most. I wish he was present with us today to guide me. This Father’s Day, I would like to salute him and his valuable contribution to my life. Oh Papa I miss you so much.

About Father’s Day: History of Father’s Day

The first observance of this day is traced to June 13, 1910 and is attributed to the efforts of Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington. On listening to a sermon about the Mother’s Day, Sonora felt there was a need to honor fathers as well. Her father, a civil war veteran, raised the family alone after his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Father’s day was made a permanent holiday only after President Richard Nixon signed it into a law in 1972.
