There is a huge difference between doing something to satisfy hunger and having the hunger to do something.
When a student from IIT-Kanpur made this statement in a street play, it hit me. It was purely a difference in what motivates us to do something, I thought. But, it is making the right choice about this motivation that changes the course of our lives.
Making Bad Choices
If we look at the two situations in the statement in focus more closely, we can draw an insightful conclusion. People falling under the first category, according to me, do not live in the present. Their sole motivation for what they will be doing is the profit from something that they have not done. When you do something in expectation of a desired result, you are making bad choices. It is more likely to cause disappointment than not doing so. Also, while we may be investing a lot of time in the activity, the energy that goes into it is not sufficient. This is because disinterest in the job gives room to inefficiency.
Making Smart Choices
People who stay hungry to do something are making smart choices to move towards excellence. They fill every moment that they live with the best they can give to it, continuously pushing their own limits. That way, they exceed their own expectations. Moreover, the passion with which they work shows in the quality of the product. Creative juices flow in abundance, as hungry men strive to achieve what they are pursuing by figuring out every possible way. This paves the way for innovation.
Are you making the right choice in life?
