I have always loved the rain. I guess most of us do. Some of us just like watching tiny droplets of water fall on the windowpane. Others love playing when it showers. Some of us like the drizzle. Others like it heavy. I like doing everything with the rain. They are like those guests who come home once a year and bring you gifts. Yes, they bring me smiles. It is amazing how they can make a dull day an exciting one. Rains guarantee good mood to me.
Happy in the Rain
I did not know the meaning of the word ‘drenched,’ till I experienced it one night. Just when the country feared a drought, it started pouring. I got down from one bus, knowing how hard the showers were. But, I had no choice. I had to catch the second one. So, I ran to find a shelter. Under the flyover, bikers had flocked to wait for the rain to stop. I joined them, though, wanting the rain to continue. The shelter did not help much. The rain was beating down hard and was falling diagonally. So, I decided to venture out in the open. I let the rain embrace every part of me. We had fun.
By the time I boarded the second bus, I was quite wet. As the bus started moving, wind met water, chilling me to the bone. My body was shivering by the time I got down from the bus and it appeared as if I had stepped out of a washing machine – soaking wet. The roads were full of puddles. As I tried passing them, I stopped for a while. The rain was falling hard on me. However, listening to the sound of rain drops falling on puddles was definitely a more exciting option than running across the road.
Why I Love Rains
In the corner of a street, I found a chatwala. He stands there everyday, but we’ve never exchanged anything except smiles… till that rainy day. The crackling sound that oil made on receiving the rain and chopped pieces of potato and the fragrance of spices made me stop at the cart. Searching for some money in my pocket, I wished there was a coin. I got lucky.
That moment had it all. It enlivened my senses. My skin tasted water. The nose touched the flavor of the leaf on which the chat was served. The tongue saw the potatoes swinging. The eyes heard the rain. And, the ears breathed the music created by all of them. Sometimes, God showers happiness on you.
Wonderful post, especially in times when we most of us are asking mercs, an iPhone, gold, axe deo, jeans and other stuffs that provides instant satisfaction and people might confuse that with happiness. (which I believe is momentary. A “burger gratification” syndrome). The simplest things in life can provide you bliss. All you need to do is make full use of the day, god has given, and liven up to the fullest. And the best part, you might be just missing those vital moments of happiness, in pursuit of finding them (they might be somewhere close to you, very close). Thanks Ankit, the simplicity of this post actually compelled me to sign up and share my share of happiness and beliefs with you all….
