The Old Fascination with New

Be it calling a set of scriptures by the name of New Testament or naming a city New York, mankind has always been looking forward to the concept of novelty. Entering into the New Year is a part of the same human quest.

From Old to New: The Journey

Does new grow into old or does the birth of new make the existing old? When humans fed themselves by gathering food, the newness that cooking brought to their lives excited them. Here, a discovery differentiated new and old. However, it does not always work like that. Sometimes, the new just grows into old. People cease to see it with the same interest as they used to. It is not unusual anymore. For instance, a car that is launched today may be new, but will not remain so as it becomes common on the road within a year.

Leaving ‘Old’ for Living ‘New’

Novelty stimulates liveliness and makes people more active around talking and doing things about the new thing. There is demand for newness. People work to create something new so that it arouses enthusiasm.
Also, one can use this as a strategy to rejuvenate oneself. Many of my friends, in their tough times, have turned to me and asked what they can do to get over things. All I tell them is that while things may end, a new beginning can be made anytime.

Growing Older, but Growing to New

For men to actually grow up, they have to be open to newness. It is then that we change for the better. While the old remains gold, when we say new, there is pride in our expression. This pride has its genesis in the strength that one gets from growth. When we move ahead, we like to be conscious of the fact that we have made progress. A new year is actually a milestone for that.

Wishing that the coming New Year 2010 brings you the same feeling of pride and opportunities to grow…
