I walked alone
In the crowded street.
Praying for rain
But feeling the heat.
I searched for a face
Or maybe just a trace
Hoping to see the sight
Of happiness personified
I saw a Messiah
Who had come to teach
Through his being
And not through preach
He taught about Truth
And about Love
Of heaven being here
On Earth, not above
He said,
“The greatest Love
Is the love for self
It is only you
Who you can seek to help”
And
“Truth has no place
For compromise
Let it live in your heart
Shine in your eyes”
I said to the Messiah
“But happiness is who
I wish to find
I’ll open my door
And beg her inside”
The Messiah smiled,
“I’ve already said too much
Pursue Truth
And selfish love”
And for years I did
What I had been taught
Selflessness and doubt
I bravely fought
The day I was ready
To declare my win
I found joy on my doorstep
Begging to come in.
Very nice. You’re becoming quite the muse my dear. I would, however, suggest staying with correct grammar – poetic license doesn’t stretch that much!!! But on the whole, I thought it was a brilliant thought put across simply and that’s the beauty of it.
Looks like she became it, a while back…considering this poem is around 10 years old…
